Why Organic
Why Use Organic & Natural Skincare Products?
Organic & Natural Skincare Products Do Not Contain Harmful Chemicals
The skin is the largest organ. It makes up 90% of our body. Your skin absorbs 60% of what you apply onto your skin. The cosmetics, perfumes and skincare products that we use contain chemicals that are easily absorbed through our skin or through our lungs when we inhale the perfume. These chemicals then rapidly enter your bloodstream and your organs. Organic and natural skincare products are made with ingredients that are grown free of synthetic pesticides, herbicides and genetically modified organisms. Natural and organic skincare products use ingredients such as herbs, flowers, fruits and roots. They are then combined with natural botanical oils and water. They also do not include harmful additives such as petroleum waxes (mineral oil), fillers, synthetic preservatives (parabens), synthetic chemicals (SLS), synthetic fragrance and colorants which can be the reason of certain unwanted side effects such as skin allergies and hormone disorders. Thousand of personal care products and cosmetics have come under the microscope and some have now been banned by the European Union. These include the chemical phthalates found in most deodorants and perfumes, and is linked to reproductive abnormalities in animals, petrochemical derived ingredients, some of which are now recognised as hormone disrupters, and can result in PMS, endometriosis and other hormonal dysfunctions. Using organic and natural skin care and hair care products can help eliminate the amount of harmful toxins that our bodies are absorbing through our skin and scalp.
Organic & Natural Skincare Products Are Better For the Environment
Organic farming eliminates the use of synthetic chemicals and fertilizers, all of which have a destructive effect on our water, soil and health. Organic plants are grown without the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), as they may pose a significant threat to the human and environmental health.
Organic vs Certified Organic
What does it actually mean when a product is ‘organic’ or ‘certified organic’?
According to COPA standards which are identical to The Department of Health service law standard, if a product contains 70% certified organic ingredients, it is legally an organic product. This is the guideline that Botanic Secrets follows.
This is not to be confused with certified organic, which means that the product has gone through a third party testing and has been grated a Certified Organic Seal for its labels, which is very costly.
